The Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center is a vital contributor to the preservation of the Appalachian mountain heritage of Western North Carolina.
Throughout the year, we celebrate mountain traditions through our music programs, old-time festivals, workshops and other events that appeal to all age groups. The Center's contributions to the continuation and appreciation of state folklife have been recognized with a Community Traditions Award given by the North Carolina Folklore Society. We are perhaps best known for An Appalachian Evening, our annual summer concert series, which runs for ten Saturdays beginning in late June. Notable artists such as Doc Watson, Bobby Hicks, Wayne Henderson (above), and The Kruger Brothers have appeared on our historic stage. The Saturday concerts are held at 7:30 pm in our 300-seat, air-conditioned auditorium. Season tickets are available now, with individual ticket sales beginning April 1. You'll want to come early for a traditional Appalachian dinner, served family style in our dining room. The series has been selected by The Southeast Tourism Society as one of its "Top 20 Events" in the region. UNC-TV has featured us on its "North Carolina Weekend" show (view the segment). |
